The Atlanta Speech School is committed to supporting the development of future professionals by sharing the knowledge of our highly trained staff through internship programs. We offer internship opportunities for students who have a background or interest in the fields of language and learning disabilities, speech-language pathology, deaf education, early childhood education, psychology, occupational therapy, and audiology.

Stepping Stones Preschool Internship |

Stepping Stones, a therapeutic preschool program of the Atlanta Speech School, serves children with communication delays who are three to five years of age. Two types of internships are available: - Special Education Internship Masters level interns spend a semester in two preschool classrooms, one for 3 year old students and one for 4 year old students. Interns will work collaboratively with the lead speech-language pathologist and team occupational therapist for each class to plan and implement a program for each student based on his/her learning profile. Interns will learn to use formal diagnostic data, including psychoeducational evaluations, informal measures, and observations to guide program design. The internship includes a focus on instruction that incorporates pre-academic, language, social emotional, and school readiness goals within a therapeutic educational program. An opportunity to work within a within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals is an additional experience offered by this internship.
- Speech-Language Pathology Internship Graduate level speech-language pathology interns will work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals utilizing a collaborative model in a preschool setting. Experiences will include planning classroom lessons for children with speech language disabilities and creating individual plans based on each child's communication profile. Interns will use informal measures, clinical observations, and formal diagnostic data, including psychoeducational evaluations, to plan instruction that incorporates academic and language goals within one framework. Therapeutic services will be provided to students within small and large group classroom settings

Wardlaw School Internship |

The Wardlaw School, the Language and Learning Disabilities Department of the Atlanta Speech School, serves children with mild to moderate learning disabilities in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Three types of internships are available: - Classroom Internship
Masters level interns from accredited programs in learning disabilities, reading, special education or speech-language pathology spend a semester in a self-contained language/learning disability classroom. Interns will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and speech-language pathologist to plan and implement a program for each student based on his/her learning profile. Interns learn to use formal diagnostic data, informal measures and observations to guide program design. This information is used to plan instruction that incorporates academic and language goals and is implemented by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
- Reading Teacher Internship
Graduate level internships are available in the area of reading. Interns will work in small groups with students diagnosed with dyslexia and related language-based learning disabilities using research-based methods that match a child's learning profile. There will be opportunities to work with three different groups. In addition, teachers will work individually with students to provide remediation in specific areas of need. - Speech-Language Pathology Internship
