The Enrichment program at the Atlanta Speech School is a collaborative effort between the classroom and enrichment teachers and includes instruction in art, computer, library, movement education, and music. The teachers all hold degrees in their field and collectively have many years of experience.
Art
The art program focuses on developing each child's artistic potential using a variety of media to help him/her experience the creative process. Hands-on projects help the student develop motor skills.
Computer
All students develop confidence in computer usage while the older children learn skills such as keyboarding, word processing, and multimedia presentations. Skills acquired include sequencing, logical thinking, problem solving, and creative writing. Students benefit from our state-of-the-art lab as well as computers and/or laptops in the classrooms.
Library
Students are involved in acquiring on-line library skills, research strategies, and choosing appropriate books using the on-line catalog. Each child is encouraged to develop an appreciation for literature and illustrations. Additionally, the Media Center provides access to a comprehensive collection of educational and professional materials and equipment.
Movement Education
This program is individualized to accommodate specific physical abilities. Body awareness, spatial relationships, and different qualities of movement are emphasized, along with specific language related to movement.
Music
Through such activities as singing, playing a variety of instruments, and creating dramas and orchestrations, students develop a love for and understanding of music. The music program reinforces academic learning through rhythm and tempo, sequencing, and aural discrimination.
