Supporting the Atlanta Speech School

The Atlanta Speech School is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization that depends upon the generosity of donors to support its annual operating expenses, special programs, and capital expansion. The School is fortunate that parents, grandparents, Guild members, and other friends of the School value the Atlanta Speech School as an asset to the community and an educational resource for the region.

Welcome
A Legacy of Community Support

Beginning in 1938 with the Atlanta Speech School's founding and its early commitment to serving children with special needs regardless of their families' financial means, the Atlanta Speech School has a long and distinguished history built on the generosity of many in and around the Atlanta community. Gifts from parents, grandparents, our Board of Directors, staff, and friends support the Speech School's mission and enable the School to strengthen its educational and clinical programs and to provide outstanding teaching and specialized services for children and adults who are deaf or have hearing loss, or have language and learning disabilities.

In addition, the Atlanta Speech School has a broader community impact beyond the children enrolled in our four schools and clients receiving clinical services. Through community programs like the Rollins Center for Language & Learning professional development institute, we are partnering with public and independent schools and school systems to strengthen literacy for young children. We agree with Dr. Reid Lyon, formerly with the National Institutes of Health, when he said, "If you can't read in America, you can't make it." Through all of our programs, we work to make sure young children master reading, develop a love of learning, and the self-confidence and skills they need to be successful in school and throughout their lives.

We are grateful for the generosity of many and the tireless work of our volunteers. Through gifts of time, talent and treasure, the Atlanta Speech School is able to be a vital community resource for children and their families. This year, we are hopeful that many friends of the Speech School will give to the 2007-2008 Annual Fund to support the School's many programs for children and adults this year.

In addition to gifts that benefit the organization now, many thoughtful donors have included the Atlanta Speech School in their long-range financial planning and have named the School as the beneficiary of a planned gift. Bequests and other planned gifts qualify a donor to be part of The 1938 Circle, a recognition society named for the year of our School's founding. Gifts from The 1938 Circle donors will provide long-term financial stability for the School's future growth and service.

We are deeply grateful for the support the Atlanta Speech School receives, and we encourage you to continue the legacy of giving by making a gift today or contacting us about your interests.

Thank you for your support of the Atlanta Speech School!

Virginia Almand
Chair, Board of Directors
