The Atlanta Speech School has internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students who have a background or interest in the field of language and learning disabilities, speech-language pathology, deaf education, and early childhood education.

AUDIOLOGY INTERNSHIP
Internships are available for audiology students completing their Masters Degree. Extend your knowledge by working with audiologists who have experience in the areas of hearing aid dispensing and educational audiology. Working with clients from the community and our school programs, interns gain experience with cochlear implants, auditory processing, FM systems in the classrooms, fitting the most recent hearing aids and much more.

LIBRARY INTERNSHIP
Undergraduate and graduate internships are available in library education. The library offers an opportunity to participate in all aspects of library functioning, including developing and executing curriculum with the students, interacting with classroom teachers, participating in collection management, and working with library volunteers.

The Anne & James Kenan Preschool INTERNSHIP
Undergraduate and graduate internships are available in the The Anne & James Kenan Preschool Department. Interns spend a semester learning how to teach preschool children with no known problems, ages 2 to 6 years. The program provides individualized instruction to allow children freedom to explore and learn at their own rate through use of a wide variety of concrete educational materials. The program is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.

Hamm Center INTERNSHIP
Masters level practicum is offered in an auditory-Hamm Center for children with deafness or hearing loss. Interns work collaboratively with master teachers to gain expertise in stimulation of spoken language development with intensive focus on the development of audition, speech, and language. Experiences can include parent infant groups through primary aged children. Preschool and school age internships include instruction in reading and math.

SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY INTERNSHIP
Internship available for Speech-Language Pathology students completing their Masters Degree. Continue your learning in a collaborative environment where the clinic and school come together. Experience the rewards and challenges of working with children with language learning disabilities, collaborating in classrooms to remediate language in the curriculum, auditory/oral education for children with cochlear implants, the CAFET method for stutterers, early language stimulation, and oral-motor development.

SUMMER PROGRAM INTERNSHIP
Undergraduate and graduate interns work with students and staff in small group learning camps. Academic skills in oral and written language, reading, and math are integrated into stimulating thematic content to ensure maximum success and enjoyment. Camps are designed for children with mild to moderate learning disabilities.

WARDLAW SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS
The Wardlaw School, the Language and Learning Disabilities Department of the Atlanta Speech School, serves children with mild to moderate learning disabilities in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Two types of internships are available:
  • Classroom Internship
    Masters level interns spend a semester in a self-contained language/learning disability class. Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and speech-language pathologist to plan and implement a program for each student based on his/her learning profile. Learn to use formal diagnostic data and informal measures and observations to guide your program design. Plan instruction that incorporates academic and language goals. Learn to work within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

  • Reading Teacher Internship
    Graduate level internships are available in the area of reading. Interns will work with dyslexic and language/learning disabled students in small reading groups using methods that match the child's learning profile. There will be opportunities to work with three different groups. In addition, teachers will work individually with students to provide remediation in specific areas of need.
