Overview
The Anne & Jim Kenan Preschool (formerly the Nursery/Kindergarten) is a cognitive discovery program designed
to allow each child to progress at his or her own learning rate.
The program enhances imagination and explores all areas of development.
This program serves children in the Atlanta Metropolitan area ages
2 to 6 who have no apparent developmental difficulties. It also serves
as a mainstreaming facility for children in other programs at the
Atlanta Speech School. It is accredited by the National Academy of
Early Childhood Programs; a Division of the National Association
for the Education of Young Children.
Goals
- to develop a positive self-concept and acceptance of each person as a unique individual
- to develop cognitive skills moving toward complex mental development through interaction with the environment
- to progress in social development through interactions with peers
- to provide an individualized curriculum allowing each child to grow and progress at his or her own rate
- to develop and foster verbal communication patterns respecting each child's dialect and experiences
- to foster self-expression through the arts, dramatic play, and interactions with groups and teachers
- to provide opportunities for small and large motor development
- to provide a variety of opportunities for learning through manipulation and exploration using an abundance of quality materials
