Mission

The mission of the Katherine Hamm Center (formerly the Oral School) is to assist the child with a hearing loss in functioning effectively in the hearing community.

Overview
The Hamm Center is an auditory-oral program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and have average to above average intelligence. The program teaches deaf children to talk. Components of the program include: Parent-infant sessions for babies and their families, play groups and classes for toddlers, and preschool and primary aged classes for children through elementary age. The focus of the program is on speech, auditory training or auditory-verbal therapy and language development incorporated into age-appropriate academic lessons. This auditory-oral program is appropriate for children with cochlear implants as well as children who use hearing aids. The Hamm Center is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission.

Goals
It is the goal of the Hamm Center to prepare children for the success in the mainstream as soon as they are capable.
