The Atlanta Speech School offers a wide variety of summer programs: camps, classes, remediation and therapy, and activities for children in the community as well as for those in our programs. Please contact the coordinator of after school and summer programs for information about future offerings. Contact the coordinator of the Oral School and the Speech/Language/Audiology Clinics for information about individual therapy in these departments. Camp Grasshopper Camp Grasshopper is a fun-filled summer day-camp for children ages 3 - 6 years old. The camp serves children from throughout the community as well as children who attend the Speech School. The camp staff leads small groups of children in activities that are fun, exciting, and developmentally suited for their ages. "Whale of a Tale" Whale of a Tale is small group writing camp for students entering 4th and 5th grade. The camp focus is on written expression skills. Think Tank This one-week camp is designed to develop and enhance problem solving skills, basic math concepts, and logical thinking through fun-filled activities and cooperative games. Students will learn strategies to enhance their reasoning skills, visual memory, rapid recall, categorical thinking, and mental processing while also developing communication and language skills. In using a variety of games as the basic curriculum, the students will be able to have fun while working on critical thinking skills and learning problem solving strategies. Reader's Club Designed to review the important elements of reading that include: phonemic awareness, phonics skills, visual tracking, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Students will be working on these various skills through a variety of games, drills, use of story webs and graphic organizers, and comprehension activities. Groups of 4 to 6 children, who are in similar reading groups, will meet four days a week for a two hour time block for six weeks. This camp is not intended for students with significant weaknesses that should be addressed through one on one tutoring. Study Skills Students with and without learning disabilities struggle with the question of how to study more effectively. This program provides strategies to help students organize their work and their thinking. Wardlaw Summer Programs/Activities The Wardlaw School Summer Session offers bright children with diagnosed learning disabilities the opportunity to maintain and continue their academic progress, as well as to solidify skills that might be lost through the summer.

Hamm Center Summer Program There is a six-week summer session each year consisting of either individual therapy/tutoring or small-group language stimulation classes. Speech-Language Department Summer Programs The Speech-Language Clinic has a six-week summer session in June and July. Diagnostic and therapy services are available during this period. Audiology Department Summer Programs The Audiology Clinic is open year round for children and adults. Summer services include comprehensive hearing evaluations and assistance with the selection of hearing aids. Back to top |
