You Can Help Change the Trajectory of a Child's Life
Through the Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program
What is the GA Private School Tax Credit?
Passed into law in July 2008, House Bill 1133 allows the state to set aside EACH YEAR $58 + million in tax credits for Georgia residents and businesses to direct, at no cost, Georgia income tax dollars to provide financial aid so public school students can attend independent schools such as the Atlanta Speech School. Donors receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their state tax liability for donations to the Apogee Scholarship Fund, the Speech School’s partner in this program. Apogee banks these directed funds to augment the School’s financial aid program for students coming from secondary or primary public school or pre-kindergarten programs.
Why direct to the Speech School?
For children who enter the specialty programs of the Atlanta Speech School, the results are life-changing. Children who are deaf or hard of hearing learn to listen, speak and ready, ready to enter and succeed in mainstream classrooms as soon as possible. Preschoolers with speech and/or language delays blossom developmentally and socially as weaknesses in language development, speech articulation, fine motor development or sensory processing are addressed. Children with dyslexia learn not only to decode words, but more importantly to comprehend and analyze what they read, and to translate that understanding so they can fully express themselves, both verbally and in their writing. An Atlanta Speech School education forever changes the trajectory of a child's life.
Direct your state income taxes to provide financial aid for our life-changing services
By directing a portion of your state tax obligation to the Atlanta Speech School, you can help us continue our commitment to providing our transformative services to each child who needs them, regardless of a family's financial circumstances. THE NEED FOR FINANCIAL AID HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER THAN NOW. This year the Speech School will award almost $1.8 million in financial aid representing 14% of our total revenue. Please help us continue our legacy by directing a portion of your state tax obligation to the Atlanta Speech School.
This is money you already owe to the state. It is a dollar-for-dollar credit against your state tax liability and you can take a deduction on your federal tax return. Limits are up to $1,000 (filing individually), $2,500 (filing joint) and/or 75% for C-corp or Trusts. Pass-through entities may participate at up to $10,000 per year. Payment is made to Apogee Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization managing the program on the School’s behalf. Because of this, there are some tax benefits. Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) filers have a greater benefit.
In addition you can:
•Control how some of your taxes are spent
