The power of a voice transforms a child for a lifetime. The Atlanta Speech School’s founder, Kitty Hamm, made a promise to this community – that all children should have the opportunity to find their voices, regardless of their family’s financial means. Almost eight decades later, this promise drives everything we do.

The Atlanta Speech School is the nation’s most comprehensive center for language and literacy, impacting the delivery of early childhood education and serving as a catalyst for change across our state and nation.  At a time when illiteracy is at an epidemic level – with only 34% of our state’s children on a path to being proficient readers – the Speech School is committed to working with statewide partners to change the trajectory for Georgia’s children.

The KEEPING the PROMISE campaign is an opportunity for the Atlanta Speech School community to join together to ensure that Mrs. Hamm’s promise is forever kept. With your support, the School will continue to serve our own students exceptionally well and to leverage what we learn on campus to impact education in our state and beyond.
The $30 million KEEPING the PROMISE campaign funds the following critical investments:
→ $23 MILLION TO ENSURE ACCESS AND BUILD INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL through endowment growth to protect our financial aid commitment and enable us to bolster vital areas of our operating budget, including professional development and faculty support, allowing our educators to remain on the cutting edge of research and knowledge in their fields.
→$7 MILLION TO INVEST IN OUR CAMPUS, including improved and expanded play areas, learning tools that support instructional technology, assistive technology and technology infrastructure, facility upgrades to increase energy efficiency, and expanded parking.
With your support, the Atlanta Speech School will continue to unlock the doors to language, literacy and everything else the world has to offer.

Make your gift here to have your voice counted among those committed to helping Keep the Promise.

The Annual Fund remains the Atlanta Speech School’s first giving priority, helping us fulfill our mission right now and supporting all aspects of our service. The Annual Fund gives us the fuel to keep the engine running during this fiscal year.

Most gifts to the Annual Fund provide unrestricted support for our operations and programs; we can use these donations to supplement other revenue sources, including tuition, fees for clinical services, fees for teacher training, and endowment income. Gifts to the Annual Fund are vital to our ability to balance a carefully-managed budget and meet the critical needs outlined for this year.

Every year, we ask for support from current parents, past parents, grandparents, staff and friends in the community. We are grateful for all gifts – large and small! We encourage each member of the Atlanta Speech School community to give, no matter the amount of the gift. Gifts of all sizes are meaningful to the Atlanta Speech School, and participation from our parents, staff and volunteers is often a key factor when charitable foundations consider making grants to support our work.
