Developing remarkably ready learners.

Your child receives an unmatched experience at the Anne & Jim Kenan Preschool, as part of a dynamic program built on mutual respect between children and adults – where how children learn is as important as what they learn.

“What I’ve seen in my children as they’ve come through this program is again, that self-confidence, but also just the exposure to all sorts of tools to communicate, express themselves, and be very comfortable in doing those things.”

– Liza Jancik, Parent

Empowering Lifelong Learners

Encouraging curiosity, developing confidence and constructing brains built for thinking

80% of a child’s brain development occurs in the first five years of life.

Preschool years are a crucial developmental time for children. The Kenan Preschool offers an academic environment that applies the latest neuro and social-science research on how young children best develop complex vocabulary, critical-thinking skills, world knowledge and social empathy.

As the only Atlanta preschool focused intentionally on the transformative power of language and literacy on the whole child, Kenan students enter elementary education remarkably prepared for success.

Research-Based Curriculum

Applying the science that values connections over compliance

Kenan educators hold advanced degrees, have years of expertise in early childhood development, and understand the science behind what is required to best prepare our youngest learners for everything that comes after preschool.

Using the best research-based learning techniques, we apply a range of teaching methods to personalize each child’s experience. Behind the scenes of our warm, welcoming classrooms is the understanding, discussion and intentional building of curricula to directly support the reading brain.

All day, every day, teachers and students engage in conversations that support spoken- language development and critical thinking skills. The meaningful relationships that form include developmentally appropriate experiences with teachers building on this language foundation. Children are not silenced – so they learn the value of listening and want to be contributors. Science tells us this is what is needed to construct reading brains and prepare for a lifetime of learning.

Expanding the Reading Brain

The first years of a child’s life set the stage for a lifetime of learning, making the pre-reading foundational skills paramount to their academic, intellectual and social development overall. Like all Atlanta Speech School programs, the Kenan Preschool focuses on the whole child, and the entirety of their educational environment.

Every program at the Atlanta Speech School strives to empower children with a lifetime of language and education. We rely on the generosity of our neighbors, parents and community leaders to ensure every child in Atlanta can excel in their educational journey.
