Welcome From the Executive Director

The Atlanta Speech School began its 78th year this year. Our School began with the vision of Katherine Hamm, who partnered with the Junior League of Atlanta to open a school where children who are deaf or hard of hearing could learn to speak and read, regardless of their family's financial means. During the School’s history, our programs have evolved, expanded and been reinvented consistent with advances in research, technology, instruction and therapy, as well as uncovering unmet needs. We still have never turned away a child in need of our services due to a family’s inability to pay. It is my privilege to serve as Executive Director and to be one of the stewards of this legacy.
The School is now the nation’s most comprehensive center for language and literacy, with four schools, five clinics, summer programs and a professional development center. Each day extraordinarily dedicated and talented individuals make profound differences in the lives of the children and adults we serve here. Through the trust and support of our families, we are inspired every day to meet our mission and responsibility to help the people we serve realize their full potential through language and literacy.

We reaffirm our covenant with each person who comes through our doors that this is the time and the place where you will find your voice, and the power of that voice, for a lifetime.

I invite you to explore our website to learn more about the Atlanta Speech School, but encourage you to visit our campus to see for yourself how we work every day to transform the lives of children and adults across our city and beyond.
